One of the best parts about being a tutor for a course you recently took is that (hopefully) you're still top of your former professor's mind. Professors have the power to tell their current students that you're there to provide help for anyone who needs it, and this can be hugely beneficial as a Knack Tutor.
Why?
Imagine if you were struggling in a class and your professor told you about a former student who could help. Not only would you be more likely to trust the tutor's credentials, but it may also be less intimidating than going to the Professor or TA themselves.
Now, replicate that across multiple classes, with multiple students in each class, and you have yourself a thriving tutoring business. Boom.
How?
-
Email the professor you had for each of the courses you tutor 📧
- We have created a template for you to use when reaching out to past professors. While we have seen success with this template, it is simply a template. Feel free to use it as is, or tweak it to make it your own!
- If professors have any questions about Knack you can't answer, feel free to direct them our way. We'll handle the rest.
-
Present to their classes 🗣
From our experience, there are three things that make this type of presentation successful:
- Keep it concise. No one wants to listen to a pre-lecture lecture. Just introduce yourself, hit the key points, and be done. Short, sweet, and to the point.
- Highlight your qualifications. Really sell them on why they should spend their time with you. If you have experience tutoring the course, talk about the success of past clients. If you do not, talk about your own success in the course and how you plan to bring what you learned into your tutoring practice.
- Pass out business cards afterward. Make sure you get your contact information into the hands of students after you’re done talking. Feel free to order some snazzy new business cards from our store!
