Why?
Academic advisors and department heads have a lot of influence over a large number of students. If you can find an advisor or department head who is willing to reach out to their email list regarding your tutoring services, you will start to see session requests come your way in no time.
How?
-
Identify relevant faculty members
- Finding relevant advisors and department heads is most easily done in one of two ways: visiting a department website or utilizing an online faculty directory.
- Either way, the most important thing to remember is that you should guide your search based off of the courses you offer and reach out to anyone who has influence over the students taking those courses.
-
Send the initial email
- We have created a template to be used for this tactic.
- While we believe in our template, it is important that you alter it to fit your unique voice. The more personal you sound, the more likely you are to receive a positive response.
-
Follow up
- If you do not receive a reply to your initial email within a reasonable timeframe (2-3 business days), make sure you send a friendly follow-up email to make sure your initial email doesn’t get lost in their inbox.
- In the follow-up email, it is a good idea to indicate that you would be willing to meet in person to discuss the nature of your services and why you would like assistance in reaching students.
